 What I've been Writing:

Day Robber (formerly known as Dearest Thief) - 63,000 words written!  I have the first sixteen chapters completed.

Zero Chance - Just thought I'd mention that it's RELEASE DAY for my baby!  Happy exposure to the world, Keene and Waverly. For more information about how you can get your hands on their story, here is their webpage.

What I've Been Reading:

So I'm fully immersed in the Boys of Tommen life right now.

-Finished reading Book 2 (Keeping 13) this week. **Love Johnny!  #SuperDreamySigh**  Seriously. When he steals Shannon's little brothers for the day? How could I not adore this boy?

-And I finished reading Book 3 (Saving 6) as well. Joey and Aoife are extremely intense.

So now I'm working my way through Book 4.  There's just something about drug addiction that makes my heart hurt. It makes everything feel so hopeless and lost. But I can't stop reading it. It's just... Captivating. It'll all be okay in the end with a happily ever after, though, right? RIGHT?!!!

What I've been Buying:

Oooh, did I get the book haul this week or what? Look! Just look at all my new pretties.  I love them. Even if Holly the cat thinks they smell sus.

 What I’ve Been Writing:

DAY ROBBER – Formerly known as Dearest Thief. We’re 55,000 words into this thing now, and I finally thought up a backstory that I think I’m going to stick with that will help move the plot along going forward. So…it’s about this kingdom called Janek, whose royal tsar was recently kidnapped by a foreign emperor, leaving the throne ripe for the plucking. Rebel bands are rising, the prince is trying to step in and run things, neighboring kingdoms are licking their chops greedily. It’s a mess. All the while, this orphaned thief in the backstreets of some poor village called Pithany just wants to find her missing brother. Except her fevered search lands her right in the middle of the fight for the crown and between two fellas who each want her on their side.

ZERO CHANCE – I received a physical copy of Keene and Waverly’s book, so I just had to eek about it for a moment!

What I’ve been Reading:

I did it!  I finally finished reading the Flesh and Fire series! Whew. It took me the whole month of May and maybe half an hour into June 1st, but I got through all the books.  And they were epic.

So after that, my fifteen-year-old said I had to read the Boys of Tommen series. I kind of wanted to do something shorter, that wasn’t in a big series since I just came out of one of those. But I can’t say no to my kid, so I started Binding 13, and now…I’m hooked. You could give me twenty of these books, all eight hundred pages each, and I’d be here for it. I’m currently working my way through Book 2 at the moment.

What I’ve been Buying:

I got a used copy of Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli off Mercari (never went through them before) because I ordered Book 2 in this series from OwlCrate (whom I’ve also never bought from before). Heartless Hunter was no longer offered there, however, and it felt all kinds of wrong to receive Book 2 before Book 1.  But thankfully, Mercari helped me out with that, and Book 1 arrived in perfect condition. Can’t tell it’s been pre-owned at all. AND it arrived before the second book, which will probably be here next week. So I’m relieved that worked out as smoothly as it did.

 What I’ve been Writing:

ZERO CHANCE  - We’re edited, we’re proofread, we’re formatted, and we’re all turned in to the vendors for preorder! (and I have no idea why I’m talking about this book in the plural form, but whatever). The story finished up at 150,180 words long.  Preorder/Buy Links can be found at https://buy.bookfunnel.com/ijhxk7vzim and then there is an advanced reading copy of the story available at https://booksirens.com/book/CYH7KP2/PLATAYV for people in the reviewing business! I’m so excited to share her with you in two weeks from today.  Eek!

DEAREST THIEF / DAY ROBBER – That’s it. I’ve made a decision! I am going to change the title of Dearest Thief to Day Robber, with the series name being Kingdom of Impostors and Thieves (until I change it again, anyway). I’m thinking it’ll end up being a duology or trilogy (hopefully a duology, unless I get long-winded). Anyway, the plot is coming together in my head more and more, and I’m getting excited!!! The three main characters have finally at least been introduced, and one of them is saying much more outrageous stuff than I thought he would! Fun times.  I’m 46,000 words in and working on chapter 12, where things are getting a little wet (No! Not in that way; get your mind out of the gutter for this book! It should be in the gutter for Zero Chance instead. LOL)

What I’ve Been Reading:

On the reading side of life, I finally finished A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Then I also got through Book 3 in the series: A Fire in the Flesh (thanks for a little time-off-from-work help on Monday, called Memorial Day), and now I’m working my way through the last book in the series: Born of Blood and Ash. I’m really going to push to complete it by the end of the weekend so I can at least get the whole series in on my monthly read list!  Cross your fingers for me!

What I’ve been Buying:

This week, I’m only claiming Silver Elite on my buy list. I’ve paid for a lot of others, but most were preorders that won’t come in for a while, so I’ll just wait to give them a shout-out when they do come in, you know, in case something happens and I never actually receive them!

Weekly Check-in #9

Friday, May 23, 2025

 What I've Been Writing:

Dearest Thief - The title battle for this story has two main contenders at the moment: Day Robber and Impostors and Thieves.  We'll see how it goes. But I'm making progress with the actual story, at least.  I have the first ten chapters completed, and it's at 40,000 words written!

What I've been Reading:

I still haven't finished the book I started last week (A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout). I was determined to sit down last night and get through the whole thing. But then the husband wanted to vent about stuff, and I upset him by paying more attention to my book than him, which ruined the reading mood. Then the youngest was hungry and thought I should feed her or something. The nerve of these children; I'm telling you! (That's my attempt at sarcasm, by the way, LOL), and the oldest actually wanted to be in my company and watch a movie together, so... yeah, didn't finish reading my book last night. Family first!

What I've been Buying:

I've learned a few pros and cons about ordering books from Barnes and Noble this week.  Here's the story: I decided to preorder Knight and the Moth from Barnes and Noble because it offered a BN exclusive edition that Amazon didn’t offer with sprayed edges and an author interview and such.  Pro for BN.  But I preordered it back in March…for the full retail price.  If I’d done that through Amazon, they would’ve charged me the cheapest price that the book was offered from the time I placed my order to when they shipped it.  Well, it just so happens that right before release and before they shipped my copy, BN took thirty percent off that special, BN exclusive edition.  If I had waited to order until then, I would’ve gotten it for nine dollars cheaper. Holy gasp, I know. But, since I preordered it in March and BN doesn’t operate like Amazon, they charged me the full retail price they advertised from March.  Lame.  Major Con Also, Amazon typically makes sure I have new books delivered ON release day whenever I preorder (They do so spoil me).  But the tracking number just told me, this one was delivered today: three days after release, which I’ll tally up as another (small) Con for BN.  So, there are some things to consider if you order books from BN or Amazon.

Ooh, but no matter where it came from, it sure is a pretty book, isn't it?

Weekly Me #8

 What I've been Writing:

Dearest Thief -  I'm pretty sure Dearest Thief isn't going to stay the name of this story, but I keep waffling between Day Robber, Impostors and Thieves, The Kingdom of Impostors and Thieves, The Impostor Prince, The Light Caster, Dawn of the Wolf, and more, so I'll just keep calling it Dearest Thief until I decide. Whatever its title will be, we're at 28,000 words now, and I'm just getting into chapter seven.

What I've been Reading:

I finally finished book 1 of the Flesh and Fire series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and I'm halfway into Book Two: A Light in the Flame. No idea why it's taking me so long to slog my way through these. They're really good with lots of action. I think they're just incredibly long.

What I've been Buying:

So Lydia is the organizer of my new library shelves. And she claims I need more sprayed edges with GREEN on them, so I found The Dragon Wakes with Thunder to preorder.  Of course, that one is a book two in its series, so... I had to get Book one. Ergo, this week, I bought The Night Ends with Fire by K. X. Song.

Weekly Me #7

Friday, May 9, 2025

 What I've been Writing:

Zero Chance - The second editor is done! I've gone through the story again, and it's now with the last proofreader. It's currently weighing in at 149,939 words, and we are on schedule to release on June 13th. Yay!

What I've been Reading:

I'm still working my way through A Shadow in the Ember, Book 1 of the Flesh and Fire series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. And my evenings should start freeing up a little more again, so hopefully I'll have more time to actually finish it this upcoming week.

What I've been Buying:

I got a copy of the new release, Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry. And that's it for this week!

Weekly Me #6

Friday, May 2, 2025

 What I've been Writing:

Nothing.  This week has been insanely busy at the day job, which has left me brain-dead after I clock out.  I'm pretty scatterbrained at the moment with an overload of things to do. So yeah, no writing updates.  Sorry.

What I've been Reading:

So I haven't been reading much either.  I finished the last Knockemout book by Lucy Score, which was my favorite.  Lucian was very yummy. And I've started on the Flesh and Fire series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Book 1 - A Shadow in the Ember.

What I've been Buying:

So I went to my local bookstore last Saturday and got a couple of things I hadn't heard of before. Hopefully, I like them!

  • The Lost Apothecary
  • The Spell Shop
  • Her Soul to Take
  • Blood on her Tongue

Weekly Me #5

Friday, April 25, 2025

 What I’ve Been Writing:

Dearest Thief: Did lots of thinking about this one and a little writing on it. It’s at 20,500 words now.

What I’ve been Reading:

I finished reading Things We Hide from the Light by Lucy Score (loved the proposal during the shootout; so fun). And now I’m over halfway through the last book in the Knockemout series, called Things We Left Behind. Wow. I think I need to read more enemies-to-lovers stories because the tension between these two…When they finally act, things explode.

What I’ve been Buying:

Got lots of new pretties! I once again received the wrong items, this time when I ordered the Never List and Repeat After Me.  They sent Harry Potter and a Dog Man graphic novel instead. I know! So weird. So now we're up to three instances in one month that I've had to return stuff.  I'm like an old pro at it now! Fingers crossed that no more orders get messed up.

Meanwhile, here's what is new on my shelves.

  • The Stars are Dying,
  • The Poppy Wars,
  • The Last One,
  • Sanctuary of Shadows,
  • The Never List, and
  • Repeat After Me

Weekly Me #4

 WHAT I'VE BEEN WRITING:

Zero Chance - I haven't gotten much done in the writing world this week. Real life has been distracting me with life stuff. Ugh. I'm still trying to make it through the read-through that I started last week. Word count is at 149,815.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING:

The Twisted Throne by Danielle Jensen - Oh my goodness. OH MY GOODNESS.  I loved it. The ending was so intense. The cliffhanger sooo traumatic. The wait for the next book just might kill me. Mmm. So good. This story is still haunting me.

Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score - Slowly making my way through it. I'll probably finish this weekend. The third-act breakup (is that what they're called?) is enraging me at the moment, so I'll be happy to move past that part. Excited to read the next two books in the series after it. The author's got me all intrigued about Lucien and Sloane's story.

WHAT I'VE BEEN BUYING:

My sprayed-edge obsession is still going strong. Maybe a little too strong. But I only got one new book this week. The Night is Defying! (That's actually the name of the book I got, not what I'm calling my recent buying addiction, by the way.)

The first book in that series is still on its way.  I also ordered another this week, but it came--gasp!--without sprayed edges, which was the only reason I ordered it. So, yep, I had to return it and order it again from a different place. Fingers crossed this one comes with those fancy edges. This was, like, the second thing I've returned lately (got my kiddo an Easter dress, but it was too big, so we took that back too), and I pretty much never return stuff. They usually just waste away in the back of my closet, but I have now returned two things in the past month alone.  What is happening to me!!!?

Anyway, I'm hearing some scandal gossip about one of the books I bought last week. Must be pretty big if it reached my ears. This should probably teach me to stop buying books because of their edges, but I don't know if I can. I may need an intervention. But if you could wait until I at least have enough to fill one bookcase, that'd be great.  Thanks!

Weekly Me #3

 WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING -

I finished up watching 1923 (the Yellowstone prequel) with my hubby this week, and the Spencer and Alex story...oooh!  My heart.  I loved watching their romance. But that ending. I'm just going to choose to believe that their story ended happily ever after in the snow when he jumped off the train for her and leave it at that!

WHAT I'VE BEEN WRITING -

Dearest Theif - I poked around a little bit more on this story.  Thinking of maybe a new title name.  What do you think of Light Caster?  I don't know.  I'll think about it. Anyway, it's at 16,000 words now.

Zero Chance - Didn't get far in this week's read-through, but I've trimmed the word count down to 149,805.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING -

I finished Wildfire and Daydream by Hannah Grace, and my favorite of the three Hannah Grace books is definitely Icebreaker

But holy crackers, I started on the latest release of the Bridge Kingdom Series (The Twisted Throne) that came out on Tuesday, and wow.  I adore all of those books. They have totally stolen my heart.  I'm about 80% done with TTT. It's so good.

WHAT I'VE BEEN BUYING -

Which means, yes, The Twisted Throne is one of the books I bought this week, along with the new deluxe edition of Blood of Hercules and the new release, Firebird.  I was so excited about Firebird because of that pretty, colorful cover, but it arrived so much darker than it looked in the picture. Sadness. Maybe they'll fix that in later printings.  I dunno.

Anyway, I asked my youngest kiddo which of the three covers she liked best, and she picked Blood of Hercules before pausing and considering Firebird

"Except this one does have dragons," she added because she is BIG into dragons lately. "Except I like nice dragons."

So I was all like, "How do you know these dragons aren't nice?" because I have no clue what the actual book is about.

To which she sent a dry look and pointed at the spine, answering, "They're literally burning down the town."

Duh, Mother.

I'd gotten the book because of the pretty, colorful spine and cover, and I didn't even pay attention to what was actually happening IN the pretty, colorful picture. So yes, I totally got blasted by a nine-year-old. And that's pretty much been my whole week.

Weekly Me #2

Friday, April 4, 2025

WHAT I'VE BEEN WRITING:

Zero Chance (Book 5 of the Seven - Keene's story): I went through the whole thing again after the first editor sent it back to me. It's with the second editor now, but I'll probably start another reread at the beginning of next week. Word count is at 150,290 right now.

Dearest Thief (A Fantasy Romance, not sure yet if it'll be YA or adult): I KNOW!! Why am I still piddling around with this story? I just can't seem to stop. But I think I finally have a first chapter that I like...after starting and scrapping three other beginnings. It's at 15,000 words right now.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING:

I finished Icebreaker by Hannah Grace this week. Oh my goodness, I fell so in love with Nate. I loved watching this couple come together. It had such a strong beginning. The ending dove off into a direction I didn't see coming, but it didn't keep me from digging into the next book, Wildfire, as soon as I finished it.  I'm working my way through Wildfire right now.

WHAT I'VE BEEN BUYING:

Look at the pretty special editions I've collected this week!

Wildfire by Hannah Grace (Ordered from Amazon)

Beach Read by Emily Henry (Ordered from Walmart)

The Flesh and Fire series by Jennifer L. Armentrout (from Cover To Cover Book Box. I ordered this Sunday, and it says it's out for delivery today. But I'm stressing because it's dark and rainy here at work, and I keep thinking about how the box is just going to be sitting at home out in the rain all day to soak. Someone, hold me!)

UPDATE: My mail lady is a saint. She put the package in a plastic sack. Happy day.

Weekly Me - #1

Friday, March 28, 2025

So I usually update my Works-in-Progress page on my website about every Friday to share where I’m at on my writing journey (except I didn't share last week, even though I know I wrote an update—I probably just didn’t save it so it didn’t publish, oops—anyway…).

I thought I’d copy and paste my writing updates here too, since I want to get back into the habit of updating my blog more regularly.

And along the way, I can add a little about what I’m reading and what I'm stocking my bookshelves with because I’ve returned to reading more lately too…plus buying more books.

Which means, you’re getting dragged along on my bookish adventures with me.  Lucky you! So you ready?  Oh well.  Here we go, anyway.

What I’ve Been Writing:

ZERO CHANCE (Book 5 in the Seven Series)

I finished Keene’s story back in February, and it's been with the first editor for a few weeks. She just finished it today, so I'm eager to get back to work on this one for next week. Eek!

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN (Book 6 in the Seven Series)

Oh, this story. Yeah… Well, I HAD nearly 3,000 written once upon a time for the beginning of Thane’s story. And it was a doozy. My plan was for him to be dating Christine still, and she’s just moved in with him. One morning, he takes a shower, and he calls into the bedroom, asking her to fetch him something—maybe underwear or…I don’t know—because he doesn’t want to leave his nice warm bathroom yet. But after his request, she doesn’t come into the bathroom, and he pokes his head into the room to see what’s up, only to find her sitting on his bed with an engagement ring in her hands…that he bought for someone else a long time ago (ahem, for Nova, of course). But Christine finds it in his drawer while getting his clothes for him, and when she looks up from the ring and says, “Yes, I’ll marry you,” his stomach drops.

He has to confess that the ring is NOT for her and that he’s in no way ready for marriage yet. But he was ready for it a long time ago with someone else, so Christine isn’t happy. In her jealousy, she ends up stalking and finding Nova. She drags Nova back into Thane’s life, where he falls for his first love all over again.

BUT if you’ve read Book 4 of my Seven series, you may know all those plans got derailed because Thane breaks up with Christine at the end of Parker’s story. And now…Now, I have come up with a whole new plot. So those first 3,000 words I wrote are completely scrapped. Thankfully, I do have an idea in my head of how to start the new plan, except I keep procrastinating, and I don’t even have 200 words written for it yet. Ugh, I know.

DEAREST THIEF (Romantasy story idea)

And this little fantasy here is probably why I haven’t been able to write on poor UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN lately. It just keeps nagging me with idea after idea. Last week, which I swear I reported on my Works-in-progress page, I wrote a prologue and some of chapter one. I had the word count up to 12,000. But then this week, I decided I wasn’t happy where chapter one was going, so I believe I’m going to scrap about 1,500 words of last week’s work on DEAREST THIEF. And I’ve only gotten about 200 words written for a new chapter one.

IN SUMMARY – Yep, I’ve deleted a lot more words this week than I've written. Definitely not going in the right direction here, so let’s hope next week goes better.

What I’ve Been Reading:

Since this is my first weekly post, I’m just going to cover the whole month of March, but I’ll get back to only what I’ve read that week during next week’s update, I swear!

Anyway, March came in like a three! For the third month of the year, I read three different books each by three different authors!

—I finished up the Shatter Me series by reading the last three books that have been published. So now I’m ready for the next one (Watch Me), coming out April 15th, though I have a feeling my 15-year-old is going to snatch our pre-ordered copy first and make me wait until she finishes it before I can start!

—Then I had a little fun with the Naughty Princess Bookclub by Tara Sivec.  I seriously forgot how fun her books were. I think I highlighted half of every book in this trilogy because of all the hilarious zinger lines in them. Good times.

—And I wrapped up the month by being totally irritated with all the love triangle, cliffhanger nonsense in the Lightlark books.  I definitely should’ve waited until this entire series was published before starting these because now I’m gonna drive myself crazy wondering what happens next. I’m a total Grim girl, you see, so if Isla ends up with Oro…I don’t know how I’ll handle that. I mean, Oro is great, and Grim has made mistakes. But GRIM! Then again, Isla keeps upsetting me for some reason, so if she just stays in that other world she got sucked into and Grim and Oro end up happily ever after together instead, I might actually be more okay with that. In either case, waiting for the next book is gonna be painful. Way to torture me, author, you brilliant beast, you!

—Thankfully, I’ve started a new book that I’m totally in love with so far (which also happens to have THREE books out as well). It’s wiping away all my Lightlark aggravations and making me think April is going to be good readings. But I’ll tell you more about that next week!

What I’ve been Buying:

When I had my youngest daughter, I gave up my library (about forty-four boxes of books, I believe—ouch, I know!) to make a new room for her (still worth it).

And for the longest time, I didn’t buy a lot of physical copies of things; I mostly just read ebooks. Until Heavenbreaker by Sara Wolf came along. I kept seeing that cover everywhere and was just hypnotized by it and its pretty sprayed edges on the hardback edition.

So I got it. And then a few months later, I saw the hardback cover for The Wren in the Holly Library with its pretty sprayed edges. And that broke the seal.

Since the beginning of 2025, I’ve become obsessed with basically anything with sprayed edges.  I have a couple dozen of them purchased now and a couple dozen more on preorder. And I have my hallway lined with bookshelves to house them. YAY!

This week’s purchase includes the new release Summer in the City by Alex Aster.

Then, A.L. Jackson was selling wounded copies of her story, Under an Endless Moon, for a discounted price because of a small little printing error in the foil, and wow, it’s still so pretty. Glad I got it.

While over in my ebook collection, I bought the last book in the Lightlark Saga. Totally overpaid for it.  But then I made up for that by snagging a couple of freebie deals through BookBub: Center Ice, Enticing Luke, The RSVP, and Girl of Glass

And that’s what’s new in my bookish world this week!
