Book BLURB (from Amazon):
When Barry Fairbrother dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town
of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a
cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty
façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their
parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils….
Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the
town’s council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet
seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and
unexpected revelations? Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly
surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.
The blurb sounds kind of boring to me--since I'm all about romance--and $35.00 in price is...a bit much. $18 for the ebook is even beyond my range. So I highly doubt I will be purchasing a copy any time soon.
But I am a huge Harry Potter fan, though, so I'm definitely curious to see what others will have to say about it. What about you?
Already pre-ordered your copy?
Super curious?
Mildly curious?
Or not at all interested and could care less?
I never read Harry Potter and the premise of this seems kind of noir somehow so I probably won't...
ReplyDeleteI never read Harry Potter so I guess I won't read this one either. The price alone would send me running in the other direction. :)
ReplyDeleteReally? You guys haven't read HP? Goodness. Well, I don't blame you any for not being interested in this one then!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I'm not sure...maybe I'll get it out from the library...Huge HP fan and I am curious how different her writing style for adults is, but I'm not in a giant rush.
ReplyDeleteHaven't read HP?! That's... that's ... unacceptable! Lol. I personally adore HP and even though it's an adult contemporary, I cannot wait to read another Rowling book. I am definitely super curious and plan to pick it up from the library as soon as they get a copy!
