Merry Christmas 2012

Monday, December 24, 2012
From my house to yours, I wish you all a very merry Christmas tomorrow!!!

May you have lots of books in your stocking, or at least lots of gift cards to buy lots of books!

I'm off work at the day job this week, so I'll be enjoying some time with my family and probably reading, due to all the purchases I'll be making on the Kindle gift card I already know I'm getting for Christmas from my wonderful, amazing husband!!

I finally have all my Christmas shopping done and all my Christmas cards sent out! Yeah, me! This silly pose was the kiddo's favorite picture to take for our Christmas card pictures.

She's been begging for two weeks to open all her presents under the tree. It's the first year she's really been aware of Christmas, so it's a blast to watch her get so excited about all the decorating and present opening.

The hubby and I had a little too much fun buying presents for her too. Since Little Miss Personality has developed such a personality, we kept saying "She'd love this, oh, she'd love this," in just about every aisle of Toys R Us that we shopped.

But seriously, she is so going to love the things we got her!

I hope you love your Christmas holiday as well. God bless and take care.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Which room in your house is haunted???

Monday, October 31, 2011

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Nothing creeps me out more than spooky real-life ghost stories. So, I gotta talk about spooky real-life ghosts today, of course!!

The husband had to go into work at 3AM last Friday morning. So when Lydia woke a bit before five, I changed her diaper, got her a tippy cup of chocolate milk, and dragged her into bed with me so I could nap until the alarm clock went off.

After about two or three minutes of us snuggling under the covers together, this huge BANG, CRASH, BOOM echoed through the house (I know, cool sound effects, huh!). As I wondered why this always always had to happen when the husband was gone, I realize what caused the sound.

Apparently, the doorway into my library/computer room does not like baby gates put across it. That was the third or fourth time it fell down without anyone being near it. And this very same gate has been put up in front of other doorways in the house, never having the same problem in those doorways.

I've had to get up in the middle of the night before with the Lydia and I've seen the computer screen blaring the screen saver in the library. Okay, fine, I'd left the computer on. But after a while, it goes into this dormant sleep mode and doesn't wake up unless someone wiggles the mouse or clicks on the keyboard, so something had to have disturbed it. (In reality, I'm guessing some update program popped up and activated it somehow, but this is October 31st, so work me on this one).

Thus, I've decided...if there is a haunted room in my house, it would have to be the computer / library room. The problem is I have no idea who would be haunting it. The house is only three years old and we're the only residents who've ever lived here. On the other hand, the ground we built on is old Indian ground. My husband has even found an arrowhead out in the yard. Maybe we've ticked off some ancient native Americans wanting our house off their resting place.

Makes you wonder!

So, if you had to pick out a room in your house to be inhibited by paranormal activity, which room would it be...and why?

Happy Independence Day!!

I hope you have a happy, SAFE, fourth of July!

To all the non-Americans...have a happy, um, Monday!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Click HERE for a fun Halloween eCard I had forwarded to me through email.

Hope you have a great holiday. Don't eat too much candy!!

~**Now for some Halloween Humor**~

You know you are too old to Trick or Treat when:

10. You get winded from knocking on the door.

9. You have to have another kid chew the candy for you.

8. You ask for high fiber candy only.

7. When someone drops a candy bar in your bag, you lose your balance and fall over.

6. People say: 'Great Boris Karloff Mask, And you're not wearing a mask.

5. When the door opens you yell, 'Trick or...' And can't remember the rest.

4. By the end of the night, you have a bag full of restraining orders.

3. You have to carefully choose a costume that won't dislodge your hairpiece.

2. You're the only Power Ranger in the neighborhood with a walker.

And the number one reason Seniors should not go

Trick Or Treating...

1. You keep having to go home to pee.

Hope you have a Happy Independence Day

BABY: Happy Valentines Day to me!

Sunday, February 14, 2010
HERE is the official hospital announcement for my daughter (WOW, I really have a daughter). It's complete with date, size and name.

I would like to thank everyone who posted their well-wishes and support my way. I wish I could write a personal note to each and every one of you. But I'm a bit lacking in energy at the moment. So, a mass THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone.

Lydia and I are doing great. The pediatrician claimed she was perfectly healthy, and as long as I remember to take my pain meds, I feel pretty dang good myself! So far, this journey into motherhood has been the most wonderful, frustrating, blessed, frightening, exhausting, rewarding experience of my life. So, I'm going to cut this post short and get back to spoiling my new baby girl.

Don't forget: The Stillburrow Crush COUNTDOWN starts right here in two days.
Happy Valentines Day.

Happy New Year

Friday, January 1, 2010
I hope everyone had a great Christmas break (though I'm sure some of you had more work and less of a break).

I toally raked in the bookstore gift cards at Christmas, and the hubby got me a Wii Fit Plus so I can get back into shape when I'm on maternity leave. I saw all of my famly, even the members who had to drive six hours through ice and snow to get here.

Our first winter storm of the season hit my house at 4pm on Christmas Eve, so we didn't get to attend our Christmas Eve service at church. The next morning, snow drifts piled up three to four feet in front of our garage, but one of my wonderful brothers came with a snow plow to clear our driveway.

New Years Eve was spent with friends. I got to play DD since I stayed sober. All in all, it was a good, restful break for me. I'm sure my baby can't complain about all the good eats I fed her--she just might come out as one big chocolate bar!

As you can see, I'm back again, ready to read and write blogs!!! But, honestly, who wants to start the year with some deep-thinking post? Not I. So...

'Twas the Night Before [#1]

by Clement Clarke Moore (1823) and [YOUR NAME]

'Twas the night before [#1], when all through the [#2]

not a creature was stirring, not even a [#3].

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

in hopes that [#4] soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their [#5 in plural form],

while visions of [#6] danced in their heads.

And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my [#5] to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

gave the lustre of midday to objects below,

when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

but a miniature [#7] and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be [#4].

More rapid than [#8 plural], his courses they came,

and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

"Now Dasher! Now Dancer!

Now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! On, Cupid!

On, Donner and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch!

To the top of the wall!

Now dash away!

Dash away!Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky

so up to the [#2]-top the courses they flew,

with the [#7] full of [#9], and [#4] too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head and was turning around,

down the chimney [#4] came with a bound.

He was dressed all in [#10], from his head to his foot,

and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of [#9] he had flung on his back,

and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a [#11]!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

and the beard on his chin was as white as [#12].

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

and the smoke it encircled his head like a [#13].

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of [#14].

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head

soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.

And laying his finger aside of his [#15],

and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his [#7], to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy [#1] to all, and to all a good night!"

(Here's what I had... 1.Fourth of July, 2.Sky Scraper, 3.Bulldog, 4.Superman, 5.Couch, 6.Fruit cake, 7.Corvette, 8.Kite, 9.Money, 10.Leather, 11.Grape, 12.O.J.'s Ford Bronco, 13.Halo, 14.Spaghetti, and 15.Leg... So, don't expect to hear from me on July 3rd; I'll be down at my sky scraper, waiting for a fat Superman in Leather to deliver my bag full of money in his reindeer-drawn corvette!!!)

Now I'm curious: How'd your poem go?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
So, tomorrow is going to be a delicious day. I hope everyone has someone special to spend their big meal with. I thought I'd start celebrating by sharing a poem I wrote eons ago.

Don't worry: it's not SUPPOSED to be literary at all... just fun. I originally wrote it for a friend's kid (actually it was for all three of their kids), but since I'm having my own, I couldn't help but plug in my baby's soon-to-be-name this time around.

So, have a great holiday!! See everyone next week; I'll have new book AND baby updates to share!

The Great Hollowsbee Thanksgiving

A long time ago, down in the village of Hollowsbee
There walked the biggest old turkey you ever did see.
With a sleek coat of feathers, he was juicy and plump.
He looked tasty enough to sink a fork in his rump.

He was ancient and wise, but looked lazy and mild,
Till one day of the year, he turned quite wild.
Every Thanksgiving, in the hours before the feast
No butcher or hunter could catch this wretched beast.

It was an impossible feat
To gain his delicious meat.
So, year after year, the town went without turkey,
Eating only ‘Taters. Yes, their future looked murky.

Because without turkey, they had no meat to gain protein,
And without protein, they were wimps, making them so mean.
But one Thanksgiving, the strangest battle was fought.
It was a war with that turkey no one has ever forgot.

The challenger was a girl named Lydia Marie
who lived with her parents outside Hollowsbee.
In only a diaper and her bare hands, Lydia did crawl
To the turkey’s fence till she was nose to nose with the animal.

She pointed at the turkey and giggled, “bird.”
Now the idea of her killing this beast was truly absurd,
And people gasped as she climbed the fence and jumped into its cage;
The news of her actions spread through town in a rage.

“Get that girl out of there,” someone screamed. “She’ll surely die.”
But no one was brave enough to stop her, and they all began to cry.
As the child scampered forth, people saw the race begin.
They edged closer, watching her chase the beast around his pen.

Now poor little Lydia Marie only wanted to pet the turkey that fled,
She was so determined, she followed it into his shed.
Oh the dread!

As the town stood near, mothers wailed and preachers prayed.
The day wore on while the little shack shook and swayed.
No one really believed the tiny girl with two names
Could bring down the great turkey. But as legend claims,

A cheer rose up when Lydia Marie exited the barn alive.
Thus, the turkey was dressed and cooked well done by five,
And the usually quiet little town of Hollowsbee
Partied and ate late into the morning, till three.

They named their new hero, Lydia the Brave,
Because from starvation, the whole town she did save.
It has gone down in history as the day the great turkey fell.
Lydia the Brave saved Hollowsbee, and that’s all there is to tell.

The End

Trick or Treat - Part Three

Friday, October 30, 2009
I'm wrapping up my Halloween series today with The "Ultimate" Halloween topics.

The Ultimate Halloween COSTUME
Best Costume I've heard of goes to the Pregnant Smoking Nun, whom I blogged about last year on November 3, 2008 (just follow the link on "Best Costume" if you haven't heard that one yet). I still crack up whenever I read the story!! What's a great costume you've seen or heard of??

The Ultimate Halloween SNACK
I still haven't seen a Halloween treat that entertains me as much as Kitty Litter Cake. Great conversation topic too... plus it tastes good (if you can get past the holy-cow-it-looks-so-real-I-simple-can't-eat-that factor). What's a great Halloween snack you like to make or eat??

The Ultimate Halloween Place
Okay, I'm rusty on all the spooky places out there. But come on, they're just so scary and I really don't do scary, so... can you blame me? Since this place is within driving distance of where I live, I'll mention THE SPOOK LIGHT. Apparently, this light--about the size of a lantern--likes to float around the country, and people like to go watch it. A group of my friends and I hopped in a car a couple years ago to find the light. The adventure was more fun than scary because we thought we were lost and never saw anything, though we later learned we'd been in the right place all along. Spook Lighting was big in the sixties, but I think the poor light has retired these days. Still... maybe some people see it around. Your turn: What's a great Halloween place, or even a great scary story that's just too cool not to share?

And that concludes my Halloween Trick or Treating blogs for this year. Have a great holiday and see you in November!! Oh, yum, Turkey Season, a pregnant woman's dream come true...

My Start-October-Big is over, ergo now I'm going to stretch back and relax for a while, and I think I'll do that with some fun Halloween Festivities. Since I'm not sure how I could trick you all online, I guess I'll just provide entertaining treats for everyone. So, today will be Halloween Game Day.

Above is a Halloween maze for you to enjoy. According to the instructions, "this poor pumpkin is missing part of his smile. Please find the path that the missing piece can take to get in the right spot."

Another treat for you is Halloween Hangman. Follow the link if you want to get harped on by a cranky old skeleton for every letter you miss.

And finally, I have a Halloween Word Scamble below. This games comes to us thanks to the website : http://www.internetfamilyfun.com/games/blhalljumbles.htm. They are, of course, words associated with you-know-which-season. And as always, the answers are at the bottom! Enjoy.
